The Soft Pack Play 10 Shows in 1 Day!

This past Saturday, the punk/indie quartet known as the Soft Pack and formally known as the Muslims, completed the awesome feat of playing 10 shows in 1 day! There were shows all day ranging from Highland Park to Venice Beach and back to Atwater Village. The shows were in conjunction with the release of their new self titled LP. The day culminated at a spectacular midnight show at a warehouse gallery in Atwater Village. The Soft Pack have recently moved to the Eagle Rock/Highland Park neighborhood from San Diego, joining a swath of talented artists that have made their home in Northeast LA in the last year. Their new album is out, should be hot off the vinyl press.

Dirty Projectors w/ LA Phil

On Saturday, February 27, the Dirty Projectors will be playing the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The Brooklyn band's music often includes orchestral accompaniaments, and the band's leading composer studied counterpoint in Vienna, so it should be a great night!

Coming This Weekend: Anderszewski Plays Beethoven At the Walt Disney Concert Hall

Young Russian conductor Vasily Petrenko, whose tutors included Esa-Pekka Salonen, was the youngest to be appointed principal conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has made a tremendous impact, increasing attendance and funding. He was also recently named principal conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Clearly a talent to watch.

BOWERBIRDS and JULIE DORION this saturday at the ECHO!

The North Carolina based folk/americana group Bowerbirds is touring this winter and making a stop in LA. They are known for interesting percussion arrangements as well as extensive harmonizing and call and response. This is no ordinary tour in that Julie Dorion (of Eric's Trip and Mount Eerie fame) will be opening the show with material from her own well established solo career. She has been said to have the most beautifully sad voice in existence, which she sets to folksy piano and/or guitar compositions. Not only will the audience be able to see these two acts on the same night, Julie Dorion will be accompanying the Bowerbirds during their headliner set as well, making for what looks to be a very harmonious evening. The show is at the Echo on Sunset Blvd in Echo Park this Saturday, JAN 30 2010. That is All.

1/29/10, OUT 4 BLOOD: Featuring Artists from the True Blood Soundtrack

[From the Echo]The Grammy-nominated ‘True Blood’ soundtrack comes alive in a night of music from HBO’s acclaimed series at the Echoplex on January 29. Reflecting the present-day Southern Gothic atmosphere portrayed onscreen, the soundtrack’s haunting song selections lean toward a large helping of roots-oriented, swamp-flooded, Louisiana-influenced sounds; performed by contemporary and classic practitioners of the genre.

Gary Calamar, music supervisor for ‘True Blood,’ says “I am thrilled that we are able to pull together some of the amazing artists who are on the ‘True Blood’ soundtrack for this very special show. And….we are trying to secure some surprise guests as well."

Out 4 Blood is made possible in part with generous support from Louisiana Entertainment and proudly recognizes Louisiana’s Year of the Song, celebrating the historic contribution of the state’s songs and songwriters. This show will feature John Doe and the Sadies, CC Adcock, and Jace Everett.
This event is scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm this Friday. Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the show. For more information, visit http://www.attheecho.com

Come out and see one of the best young orchestras in Los Angeles

Though this infamous Wagner opera has three acts, the staged performance will only include Act II and the final scene--think of it as getting your opera feet wet without the 4 hour epic. :)
