Shujaat Khan and Abhiman Kaushal Coming to Oxy on Feb 6th!

At 8:00 pm on Saturday, February 6th, The Music Circle will bring Shujaat Khan and Abhiman Kaushal to perform in the Herrick Chapel at Occidental College.

Shujaat Husain Khan belongs to the Imdad Khan gharana (tradition) of the sitar and is the seventh in the unbroken line from his family that has produced many musical masters. His style known as the gayaki ang, is imitative of the subtleties of the human voice.
His memorable appearances include performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Royce Hall in Los Angeles and Congress Hall in Berlin. His collaboration with different genres of music has includes the enormously successful Indo-Persian venture, the Ghazal Ensemble. Their album, Rain, was nominated for a Grammy award in 2004.
Abhiman Kaushal represents the Farukkabad and Lucknow styles of tabla. Having been initiated into the art by his father R. B. Kaushal, who was a disciple of the legendary Amir Hussain Khan, Abhiman later continued his training under the famous Sheikh Dawood of Hyderabad and the ustad's senior most disciple, B. Nandkumar.
Abhiman has accompanied most of the leading musicians, singers and dancers of North Indian classical music. He has toured around the world and has numerous recordings. He is currently Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music at the University of California at Los Angeles.
