CONTROL 2.25.2011

The Avalon in Hollywood is one of the trendiest yet afforable night clubs in the area. The club brings in big names in hip-hop, pop, and house/electro music. On February 25, the weekly event CONTROL is featuring headliners Designer Drugs, Mustard Pimp, and Lucky Date ft. Sue Cho. However, the opening acts are closer to my heart. Sacramento DJs Mike Diamond and My Cousin Vinny will be performing at the Avalon for the first time. I first heard Mike Diamond, formerly Diamondmonster, at a hipster-esque house party during my sophomore year of high school. I have been a devoted fan ever since. So naturally I will be attending this event, along with the mass exodus of Sacramentans who have already been planning carpools and caravans. Cirque Bezerk at Club Nokia

Something out of the ordinary has arrived in LA this January. Its Cirque Bezerk, a combination of circus, burlesque, sideshow and Broadway musical. Creepy yet sexy, the show has been described by LA Times as "the sort of spectacle that Time Burton would dream up if he quit film and joined the circus" and "a post-rave, post-goth spectacle both in sound and appearance" by LA Weekly. It is a sort of Gothic Cirque Du Soleil- incredible acrobatics meet a zombie infused storyline.

Shows are held at 8:00 pm every night until January 30th. There is also a matinee performance on the 30th. Cirque Bezerk is found at Club Nokia (about 10 miles south of Occidental). Tickets cost about $80. For more information check out the Cirque Berzerk website here.

"The Seven," at the New York Theatre Workshop

Shinae Jun (choreographer).

To prepare for auditions, actors-singers-dancers should:

your particular voice and personality
* prepare Oedipus's monologue/scene p. 15-19

March 14. Performances are: April 15-17, 21-23 at 7:30 pm and the night
before graduation, May 14 at 8:00 pm.

Coachella Lineup Announced!!

Welcome back everyone!!

Hope you all had a great, relaxing, exciting, and refreshing winter break. It is always a little weird getting back into the swing of things after having had a month to do whatever you wanted in a completely different environment.
Although this new semester promises to be a great one (starting with the brilliant weather we came back to), I hardly got through my first day of classes before a minor little distraction caught my eye: the lineup for Coachella 2011 has been announced!

From April 15th - 17th Indio, California will be rocked by prodigies such as Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Kanye West and The Strokes. And those are just the headliners... the really persuading part of the lineup includes bands such as Mumford & Sons, Boyz Noize, Animal Collective, Bright Eyes, Ellie Goulding and more...

The ticket might be pricy (around 280,- for a 3 day pass) but this year's performances promise to make it worth every penny. Camping is optional, and even camping right next to your car is ok with the Coachella managers. For more info on the festival, lineup, and ticket sales visit www.coachella.com.

I'll see you there!
