Bored? Listen to Occidental Students DJ!

KOXY is the Occidental College radio station which is operated and run by students. It's mission is "to provide the student body with a creative media outlet. KOXY's diverse programming provides students and community members with individualized entertainment for social, educational, or professional interests." The DJs who host the shows are all students who are extremely dedicated to their craft and spend a great deal of time preparing for their shows, which vary from sports talk to classical music.

A tad deceptive in its nature, KOXY cannot be listened to on the actual radio, but rather streams online via koxyradio.com. Many students are aware of KOXY, but very few have ever taken the opportunity to tune in. This is most likely due to the unfortunate firewalls located around campus, which can cause the stream to buffer eternally. However, I can recommend a few locations where the stream runs crystal clear:

1. The Marketplace (the DJ booth is actually located directly underneath the marketplace so reception=perfection).
2. The Cooler
3. The Quad
4. The Library (headphones recommended unless you are in a private study room)
5. Booth Music Department

And basically anywhere within a decent range of the Marketplace. I have actually walked with a laptop and the stream starts to cut out underneath the bridge at the Biology building.

Sadly, unlucky residents of upper-campus are unable to listen in their dorms. There have been many suggestions that ITS alter the firewalls to allow the streams to run through, but to no avail. As a DJ myself, I find this a little counter-productive since our goal is to gain more listeners, and who is more likely to listen than fellow class mates or neighbors down the hall? Nonetheless, there are still plenty of places for dedicated listeners to tune in. So the next time you find yourself killing time at the Cooler before your next class, whip out your handy-dandy laptop and log on to koxyradio.com for some great music and entertainment!
