The city of Los Angeles is considering a proposal to drastically cut arts education at the elementary level in the city. The proposal asks that 50% of all arts teachers be laid off for the 2010-2011 school year. this alone would have terrible consequences for the educational enrichment and opportunities of those elementary school students who attend public school in LA. however, the proposal would further cut the remaining 50% of arts teachers' jobs in the following school year. If you believe that the arts are central to elementary school education, then please take a minute to sign the online petition to beat this proposal at

  1. You might also want to start a petition on making sure the arts get proper funding, or at least proper attribution and recognition for their work.
